What comes to your mind when asked where you last poured a pint or two of acid? You would probably picture yourself pouring carefully measured drops of an acidic cleaner into the kitchen sink with gloved hands. Let’s give you another perspective: the last time you overate at a fast-food restaurant, you filled your stomach with significantly harmful amounts of acid.
Sorry to compare your stomach with a kitchen sink; that’s what consumerism and the hype around fast and processed food have reduced us to.
None of us can break loose from the shackles of acidic food because we all agree that it pleases the taste buds. But, the pleasure of taste buds can be certainly compromised now and then when the well-being of the remaining 99.5% of the body is at stake, can it not?
We can take a break from acidic meals and neutralize their harm to the body with alkaline meals. We are not suggesting a complete boycott of fun acidic foods, but we must also make the following healthy alkaline foods part of our everyday meals.
1. Apples (sweet), Apricots, Alfalfa sprouts
You must be more willing to eat these fruits as snacks or after-meal refreshments. Together with being rich in antioxidants, these alkaline foods have substances that maintain the body’s hormonal balance and are luscious to taste.
2. Grapes (sweet), Passion fruit, Pears (sweet), Pineapple, Raisins, Umeboshi plum, Vegetable juices
This group, with a pH of 8.5, has a list of benefits as long as that of the names of alkaline foods. They are rich in vitamin A, B, and C, blood regulating and blood pressure-lowering good foods. Pineapple, together with being incredibly delicious, caters to your growing waistline because of fat eliminating agent present in it naturally.
3. Chicory, Kiwifruit, Fruit juices
These healthy alkaline foods have natural sugars which don’t spew large amounts of harmful acid into the stomach. Instead, the Kiwi fruit is loaded with vitamin C, and Chicory contains the hormone insulin. Go without saying the numerous benefits of fruit juices.
4. Watercress, Seaweeds, Asparagus
Seafood worldwide is seeing more and more use of this group of alkaline foods. Asparagus is best consumed raw and brilliant green, and the seaweed is an ample source of calcium and iron.
5. Limes, Mango, Melons, Papaya, Parsley
You would probably light up at the thought of mango and melons being alkaline because they are exceptionally delicious at the same time. Well, yes, this group of good-tasting, good-smelling foods is an excellent kidney and intestine cleanser. Eating any of these raw or cooked with another edible will be a refreshing treat to all of your body.
6. Cantaloupe, Cayenne (Capsicum)
This group has the most alkaline properties, antibacterial substances, and stress-fighting factors. Again, a great reserve of vitamin A, low in sugars, and high in fibre; so much better, you will instantly feel cleansed and light inside.
7. Agar Agar (Organic Gelatin)
Not all gelatins are bad. Organic gelatin known as Agar Agar is made from seaweed and is easily digestible, making it a suitable option for dinners.
8. Watermelons
This one fruit should replace all your acidic, fattening, unnecessary snacks. Its high fibre and water content and the presence of beta-carotene, lycopene and vitamin C will spruce everything from your taste buds to the colon and cleanse the acidity immediately after consumption.
9. Lemons
When life gives you lemons, eat them because they are the best alkaline food! With an overwhelming pH of 9.0, nothing acidic survives a sprinkle of lemon drops. It relieves heart burns, acidity, and many intrinsic and extrinsic viral infections. Also, being a fantastic liver tonic, it energizes your entire body with a new spirit.
10. Avocados, Bananas (ripe), Berries, Carrots, Celery, Currants, Dates, and Garlic
We know that’s a long list of all the foods you loathe, but hey, they’re not that bad. They are rich in the superpowers of antioxidants and neutralize even the stronger acids with their alkaline pH of 8.0. If you don’t want to eat them raw, you can always toss them in a salad or a bowl of spaghetti. Your body stays safe from acidity and has a good intake of antioxidants!
As you can see, it is incredibly important to maintain an alkaline diet. With so many incredible healthy alkaline foods sources for this type of lifestyle and the risks involved with not doing so (most notably tooth decay), I would say that there really isn’t any reason at all why someone shouldn’t try their best effort in achieving these goals!
